St Chad's Holiday
Club - August 2011

Using a Scripture Union resource book, 29 children and 4 leaders
plus helpers focussed on "God's Big Plan" for his world
having fun with creative teaching, games, songs, craft, Bible
reading and small group activities.
There was also a daily workshop, which allowed children to explore
each daily theme through the media of visual art , drama , music
and dance.
There was a Showstoppers DVD, which told the story for each day
and the Showstoppers song complete with actions - and everyone
joined in.
We started
and ended each morning and afternoon with a jolly 'UP FRONT'
session led by Gladys, watching the DVD , worship and singing
, with a performance of the drama of the day acted out by the
small groups in turn.
The Showstoppers
were divided into smaller age banded groups led by Karen, Colin
& Rosemary - backstage, the orchestra pit and the foyer -
for the morning activities, while each afternoon we spent more
time all together for face painting, banner making, drama workshops
and a treasure hunt. Each day we spent some time in The Bakehouse
garden (thank you Jill ! ) where Sammie and Claire, our budding
young leaders, very ably organised games and sports.
Day 1 CREATION
Mobiles were made, puzzles and mazes were done, a creation story
mini book was made along with some chatting about the wonderful
world God created for us.
Day 2 DAVID
& GOLIATH
Again more puzzle sheets, colouring of pictures and a game that
is a cross between curling and marbles was made using stones
and paints
Day 3 DANIEL
IN THE LIONS DEN
The main craft today - and by far the most popular - was the
painting of a lion shaped money box. Generally either red or
yellow but with some quite strange black, green and purple lions
also appeared. Lion masks , Daniel place mats, and yet more puzzle
sheets featured again.
Some highlights
include Vicar Maureen having her face painted along with the
youngsters; learning that the cherub outside the church door
is called Bobbie; hanging the new banner; marching around the
church singing I'm In The Lord's Army; shouting our grace before
lunch A B C D E F G Thank you God for feeding me. Amen.
On the last
day in church we welcomed family & friends to join us for
a short closing service led by Maureen - but this was not the
last day as we all enjoyed a trip to Cosford Air Museum and a
simulated flight.
I should like
to say a big thank you to Karen & Gladys as main organisers
and to all the people who came and helped, Jill, Karen, Debbie,
Ann, Ken, Gena, Elaine, Lesley and Mary.
