'Maureen's
Musings'
April 2013
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
He is Risen indeed. Alleluia!
We begin this month with the ancient Easter greeting - as this
edition will come to you round about Easter Weekend. And since
I am writing this with a mini-blizzard whipping past the Vicarage,
I do hope that we get a lovely sunny Easter Weekend and a truly
spring-like April to enjoy.... it has seemed like a very long
winter this year - probably made more so by the wet weather of
last summer and autumn.
But we know the spring is just around the corner, and with it
comes our Annual Church Meeting - this year on the evening of
14th April, when the we will be electing new members to our PCC
and we also need to find a new member of Deanery Synod to join
our three other reps as David Baxter has felt the need to step
down. Thank you David for all your past service! And remember,
it is the Deanery Synod Reps who (among other things) form the
electorate to the House of Laity of the General Synod ... so
while few people relish the thought of 'more meetings' - it really
does matter who stands and who is elected. Ultimately it can
affect the Law of the Land .... General Synod being the only
other legislative assembly in this country, apart from the Westminster
Parliament. So I do hope that lots of people will come along
to our annual meeting and will consider who we should elect to
represent this parish at the Deanery Synod...
We will also be electing the Churchwardens for the next 12 months
- and I think at least one of them will be changing this time
around.
And I am praying that the right person will come forward to take
on the role of our Parish Treasurer .....
I write this also in the same week that a new Archbishop of Canterbury
is installed and our brand new Pope - Francis I has taken his
inaugural mass. What a time of fresh beginnings! And it looks
like being a record year both for weddings and baptisms... who
could fail to be optimistic about our future as a community?
All this and our bright new blue bins too to take away all our
recycling!
Fresh starts, new beginnings and spring around the corner - Lovely!
Thanks be to God, our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.
Happy Easter blessings,
Maureen.
