New Audio Visual System
for St Chad's Church
After some three years in planning, work began on Monday 25th
April 2016 installing the new Audio Visual System in St Chad's
Church.
The reasons for installing it
The new AV system will overcome the problem of limited sight
lines within the church allowing all the congregation, no matter
where they are seated, to see all the activity of the service
or event and to feel a closer involvement.
It is envisaged that the system could be used in many ways to
enhance services of worship, baptisms, weddings, funerals, youth
services, together with events such as Holiday Club, Fellowship
Meetings, Concerts, Illustrated Talks and TV screening of important
broadcast events.
The screen and monitors in the system could be used to display
many things such as:
* The images from the installed camera(s) showing scenes around
the church.
* Photographs, DVD and internet video, Powerpoint presentations,
Hymn texts, etc., all through the laptop computer situated in
the control console.
It is felt that the system, although not being used all the time,
will enhance the content of many activities in St Chad's and
open the way to encourage more people, both young and old, to
become part of the church. It will be of particular benefit when
the school are visiting the church, enabling parents/grandparents
and carers better to view the activities of young worship leaders
and participants.
The System - Screen and Monitors
The central main screen of 2.2 metres wide x 1.65 metres high
will be in the chancel, positioned behind one of the wooden beams
and lowered into viewing position by motor control when required.
A concealed high power projector positioned in the roof area,
will operate with this screen. This is positioned in such a way
that the view of the altar and reredos is not obscured when in
use.
Also in the Chancel, and for viewing by the Church Choir, there
will be two 27" LED monitors, one positioned in the corner
by the organ and the second on the opposite wall, above the Priest's
chair.
A further two larger 40" LED monitors will be mounted to
cover both the North and South aisles. These will both be wall
mounted a). above the arch opposite the vestry door and b). by
the back of the organ in the Lady Chapel. They will be mounted
on hinged brackets and be pushed back against the wall when not
in use and covered with a concealing decorative cloth.
Video Cameras
A remotely controllable camera, mounted on a bracket will be
positioned to monitor the font and South aisle, particularly
for use during Baptism Services.
To monitor other views around the church, particularly down the
church aisle towards the altar, a second fully controllable camera
could be moved to a second wall mounting bracket.
Operations Console
A new wooden cased control console will be built into the area
of one of the rear pews and this will include the controls of
the existing sound system at present situated in the Choir Vestry.
