Our Priest-in-charge retires... |
Revd. John Daimond
Taken from
the PCC minutes of the meeting of St Chad's Parochial Church
Council held on Thursday 13th September 2007.
On
the recommendation of the Bishop of Wolverhampton, our Priest-in-Charge,
John Daimond requested that his intention to resign on 1st November
2007 be formally noted.
A 3 month notice period has to be worked but John will be finishing
at the end of December and taking the month of January as holiday.
He will be leaving the Vicarage around the 16th January 2008.
Retirement
Lunch
On Sunday 30th December
2007, the Churchwardens organised a special 'Farewell and Thank
you Lunch' to mark the retirement of John Daimond, our half-time
Priest-in-charge. The 220 tickets were quickly taken with a waiting
list of over 30 people.
The lunch was a surprise event for John, who was presented with
a personalised invitation after Morning Service. The Village
Hall soon filled with the guests, 30 of whom were John's family
and friends. The Buffet Lunch, which was organised and served
by the St. Chad's Social Committee offered a splendid choice
of sandwiches, savouries and various nibbles.
After lunch, John and his wife Pauline cut the specially prepared
large iced cake. photos >>
CHAD
Singers
The
CHAD Singers then performed three songs specifically chosen with
the third being a specially written version of a 'Whiter shade
of pale', a particular favourite song of John's. After the performance,
John was presented with a copy of the special music with signed
wishes from all the members of the choir.

This was followed by further presentations from various organisations,
all to mark John and Pauline's time spent here in Pattingham.
All were accompanied with glowing speeches expressing the gratitude
to and the love felt for the popular couple.
Church Choir
The Church Choir presented them with a specially made plate on
which was a picture of St. Chad's Church and the signatures of
all the choir.
Parish Council
Joan Burton, on behalf of the Parish Council presented both of
them with Pattingham and Patshull plaques.

The Churchwardens presented them with a watercolour of St. Chad's
Church, painted by local artist, Bob Owen.

A basket of flowers was presented by Jill Parker from the PCC.
Social Committee
Mary Buttress, the Chair of the St. Chad's Social Committee presented
Pauline, herself a very active member of the Committee, with
a Doulton figurine called 'Balloon Seller'. Pauline had wanted
this piece having admired it many years ago at her Grandmother's
home. Although it was no longer made, a piece was found for sale
in Bridgnorth, promptly purchased and is now cherished by Pauline.

The final presentation was a cheque for over £2000, donated
by the parishioners of Pattingham and Patshull.
Speeches
Finally, emotional speeches were given by John's daughter,
Rachel and then John, having composed himself after obviously
being greatly moved by the speeches and presentations from the
congregation of St. Chad's Church and the people of Pattingham
and Patshull.
We all wish Pauline and John a happy and long retirement.
